When I saw that you updated this fic, I just spazzed at my sister, waved around my arms in joy. It was that wonderful. :D Touya playing for Shindou's sake is admittedly, a very interesting twist. I really like how you neatly avoid all the conventional plotlines. :D

Thanks! The manga seems to be about finding internal motivation/desire, which Akira has in spades in canon. So I thought I'd invert it.

*is totally amused at the "midlife crisis" genre comment* I wouldn't have classed this with Dross, but it's a really good observation.

The problem with apathy is that I have to be in the right mood to write it, and then writing is a problem because I'm apathetic. ^_~ Glad you enjoyed.

Just finished watching the series and went snooping about online for good fic. I was very pleased to find this story! And very disappointed that it wasn't finished :( This is quality writing. There are a few typos, but the writing itself is very good. The exposition is necessary, not boring or self-conscious. The apathy is well done. Most of the time I just quit reading a story when one of the characters becomes depressed (the self-pity just becomes boring, honestly), but it's actually the emotional struggle that kept me reading this story. I think this is because you focus on Akira's struggles and desires, rather than treating the fic like his diary. Taking on something like grief in a sincere and honest way really makes this story more than a cute after-thought of canon, and actually a piece that stands on its own merits. I will be eagerly awaiting your next update!

Thank you! I am working on the next section, but I've been eaten by RL and my time is much less open to writing anything.

Grief is a curious thing. I got tired of "sob" type grief stories, so I wanted to have Akira stuck in the "numb pain" and "apathy" side of things. Grief is different for everyone, since every case of grief is unique.
