Talk about a heartbreaker. I hope everything works out for those three (Watanuki, Himawari and Doumeki). They really deserve a happy ending. Though, I'm more than sure they won't get it. Clamp really enjoys their angst.
So very true. But it doesn't say much for us either. We just keep demanding more CLAMP. Which in turn will more often than not give us depressing endings, and sad days afterwards.
Its the artwork. The story. I'd mean damn you CLAMP, but I'm one of those who demands the manga. XD
Well, it's kind of a natural extension of her life? Bad things happen to people she cares about, so I could see her blaming herself...
could use "own behalf," maybe...
Not sure about the second edit suggestion, either... I think either works, since "remained" puts "unchanging" into the past tense... hmmm... need a grammarian here. *considers*
Himawari was always a favorite, so of course I'd read this. XD This... broke my heart. I love how Watanuki's extreme character makes the contrast between his "normal" and present self so sharp and painful, and seeing it written is... guh. You had me at Since Watanuki was effectively imprisoned in the shop by his own stubborn refusal to let Yuuko go,
I'm wondering where she is - we KNOW she can still see the shop, so this is my speculation. I think she would find it very painful to be around him, since he seems to have become Yuuko Version Two. I was studying his expressions, and he does seem very knowing.
Watanuki is very much a person who's chosen his own prison.

The gates parted for her without any effort on her behalf
behalf doesn't really make since here?
she would be struck by the one thing that remained unchanging, his face
should it be 'unchanged' instead of 'unchanging'?

a sad but quite a grim reality for all those involved. i wanted a happy ending for them but it wasn't possible. :(
this is a great introspective "what-if" on them and it really makes sense in a twisted sad way. good job. ^^b

And I hope it makes sense - I know it's going to get Jossed shortly, but it was interesting to speculate.
