That was beautiful. Please tell me that you'll eventually do a part 2 to it? Granted, the open-ended ending does give it a certain flair.

No, not doing a second part. This is supposed to be open-ended... I learned from the last time that some things are best left like that.

Agreed, it does work with an open ending. One can only hope that KOUYO does lose in this univ and causing a shake-up.

I think either of them losing would be VERY INTERESTING, since Hikaru would have to take the fall for Sai.

And I'm pretty sure Sai would take up Kouko's challenge...

I read nearly half of this before I realized that it was *Kuwabara.* And then I nearly spit out the grapefruit I was eating. XDD
It's definitely an interesting take on Hikago AU. I like thinking about Hikaru's reaction (he also seems to have Sai in this universe, but the effect isn't as intense.. I suppose he discovered NetGo earlier (and possibly didn't meet Akira at the salon?)). It's also creepy to imagine Kuwabara as young, and married, *especially* with someone who has Touya Kouyo's soul. XD;; (And to imagine him looking pervily at Kouko.. and having children.. aaah, my eyes!)
I wish you had talked more about Akira himself, since it was in his perspective, and we don't know too much about his history or his motivations. It makes the ambiguous ending that much less conclusive, since it's hard to say how Kouyo's challenge would affect him in the future.
But that's just me being picky.. this was lovely. :D And really interesting. XDD

I did warn for spit-takes!

I did try to imply the changes that Akira has gone through, which has had some ripple effects. He's more sarcastic, less inclined to feel the ONLY route through Go is the pro world, and also less respectful of authority figures (Kuawabara is not the presence canon Kouyo is). Actually, I would say the divergence for Hikaru comes when he insults the pro world; this version of Akira didn't freak out about that.

And Kuwabara married Kouko very OLD (Akira probably wasn't born until Kuwabara was in his mid-fifties).

<3 Very nicely done. Learning _Kuwabara_ was the father was a spit-take moment, but then you had Kouko be KOUYO, and suddenly a lot made sense. ^_^
