I was madly in love with Sainan no Kekka when I read it a few years ago, and Quatre's always been one of my favorite (quite possibly my very favorite) of the pilots, so I was ridiculously happy to see this little fic pop up on my flist. It's a nice grace note to the series (and a very pleasant distraction from my constitutional law midterm). Thank you.

One minor issue - I don't think that you can actually "write in Mandarin." Mandarin's one of several dialects of spoken Chinese, but the written language is actually the same, regardless of regional dialect.

Yeah, that's the case. Having said that, pronunciation would be different (obviously), and there could be slightly different grammar structures between dialects.

You could always say something about how it's written in traditional script, which would be realistic for Wufei to know?

This is why Ger usually edits for me - to catch my stupid mistakes. Now that I think on it, Wufei spoke Cantonese so it's a bigger mistake... (I think, maybe? I need to reread). I'll edit it later, so thanks.

Very glad you enjoyed this walk down memory lane - I was surprised at how much I missed writing in the SNK-verse. One of the reasons it didn't stay a drabble!

Out of curiosity - did Wufei really speak Cantonese? Did he ever speak enough Chinese to prove that? I'm just really interested, because I'm going to college in Hong Kong now, and I've become aware of the big difference between Mandarin and Cantonese....
