I've long marveled at how different my parents are when it comes to germs. Mom won't eat something if it might have touched the spot on the table that your hand touched after you touched your chair where the bottom of the grocery bag had been after being on the floor in the car ( Read more... )

LOL. Which effect are you hoping to ameliorate? Change your mother's feelings about germs in the hope that it changes her politics? Or let her keep her cherished germ phobia, but disengage it from her voting habits?

Good question. I had just meant her politics but it'd be nice to reduce her worry about germs too. Lol!

That is really interesting. I wonder what your mom's reasons/feelings/fears are for being so careful?

Mom does have a clinical diagnosis that is related to germs. . But that doesn't mean she doesn't also have reasons feelings fears on the matter. My observation is that it has to do with being able to control a tiny part of this crazy world and have some effect on her/our health.
Which actually fits the quiz maker's summary of the study fairly well, "Some scientists believe it's ancestral and that the adverse reactions were used to protect primitive ancestors from contamination and disease. This way a person wouldn't confuse drinking water with dirty pond scum."

The premise doesn't work for me. I can be a bit fussy (not as bad as your mom, but still), but politically, I'm very liberal.

Apparently i didn't actually include the quiz. That was silly of me:

It's entirely possible you won't be predicted well by the quiz - but I'm aware that my summary is very likely flawed and perhaps i should give readers the option of checking it out themselves if desired.

I have some fussy tendencies but it predicted me reasonably well. I'd be curious if actually taking the quiz worked better than my summary.... or if you are still an outlier. But no pressure. :)

That quiz says I'm more conservative than not, but actual political quizzes say my views are 97% compatible with Bernie Sanders.
