The SPCA is having an event at one of the pet stores nearby in town. Maybe that's where I'll go to get my kitten. It's better to find ones that need homes from the shelters, right? I'd imagine the ones in pet shops get adopted a lot easier

I saw something about that in the paper! I really want to go see if I can adopt a kitten, too, but Mom says no. I miss Oliver...

Oliver? Your Mom does seem the type that wouldn't like animals... Though, if you wanted to get one, you could always keep it at my place and come visit it whenever you want!

Well... hypothetically speaking, of course, what would I do if there were someone I liked?

He was my best friend's cat, back in NYC. We couldn't have pets in our apartment, so he was sort of like my pet, too, even though she's the one that owned him. I really miss him.

Mom thinks pets are a waste of time, and that they'll ruin the house. And that's a really good idea, but I'd feel so bad that you'd have to take care of my pet!

Well, um... You should probably try to show that person you care about them! Do something nice for them. And then when the time is right, tell them how you feel!
