Here I am, 45 years old, and only just now came out to my mother, about 36 hours ago.

My sisters have known for about three years, and obviously sosoclever has known for a bit longer

When I worked in a pharmacy and we were robbed, the police were fussing at me for laughing in the 911 call. Just a reflex for some people I guess. I'm glad everything went well!

Glad it went well for you. I remember "coming out" to my mum as a smoker and it was pretty nerve-wracking so I'm sure coming out as lesbian would be a lot worse.

Yeeeah . . . officially, I've still never admitted to her that I used to smoke!

Come to think of it my mum officially thinks I just smoked cigars, although I suspect she knows fine rightly I also like cigarettes.
