Yoinked this from Biology in Science Fiction. This is a list of "must read" books posted online by The Guardian, or at least the sci-fi/fantasy part of that list. As with any other sort of list-meme, the books I've read are bolded. ( Under here )
Same here, really. I don't think I should expect much else from the Guardian, though. I read the original article, and it was more a book snob list, that's true. Basically intended for people who want to know All About Speculative Fiction and track its history and turning points. It's not for people who read to be entertained.
29. Would be about ten more if I hadn't wandered off halfway through some of them. (I keep intending to finish The Master and Margarita, for example. I was reading it at the library and someone checked it out and I have no idea what translation it was to find it again.)
You could always try to find it by the cover, as long as you remember that much. ;)
I've wandered off from a few of these, and I've seen the movies of a few others. About 30% of the unbolded stuff is on my life-long reading list, and I'm determined not to feel like a Bad Geek because I haven't gotten to it all yet.
Unfortunately, it was a black hardcover with the dust jacket removed. :P
Yeah, there's a bunch of stuff I intend to read. And some of it really sucked (hence the stopping), but there are a lot of things I only read comparatively recently that I am so glad I did, like The Female Man and The Left Hand of Darkness and The Man in the High Castle.
Yeah, me too, though a lot of the books on here don't interest me. I've read enough Golden and Silver Age SF to know that I don't care for it. ^^; I know the plots of a fair number I haven't read, and I've got a bunch of others that are already on my list. It's just a matter of finding the time to read them all.
