*sigh*

I've now run twice into this mistake in just two days and in two different fanfics... how can you even come to mechanizations when you mean machinationsIt's driving me nuts how so blatant a homophone can slip through even the most superficial alpha/beta correction process. And in ten years we'll be forced to accept that mechanizations are ( Read more... )

Mechanisation sounds way more awesome though. Like they're all turning themselves into cyborgs.

I guess the simple answer that both authors and betas assume they know the word, or a word like it, no one knows how to spell it, autocorrect likes it? Good, I'll leave it.

It's weird, but I have to admit I've never seen this mistake before. I'm more sensitive to stuff like people confusing affect and effect which really grates on me. It's the worst when it appears in overblown pseudo-psychoanalysis posts like "bad thing XYZ effects people in ways ABCD which is why we should stop using these words, etc". It just make me want to shake these people and yell at them, like NO IT DOESN'T "EFFECT" THEM YOU FUCKTWITS LEARN YOUR OWN LANGUAGE GODDAMMIT!

Well as you know i almost exclusively read HP Fanfics (with some occasional exceptions for Dr Who, Perry Rhodan if i'm in a mood to bother with german boards or recently a few things around Naruto).... so the two guys machinating happily along with the wrong substantive were Lucius Malfoy and Albus Dumbledore.

I have enormous problems to imagine either wielding a mean Allen Wrench or to correctly use a soldering iron...

Of course the idea of Artur Weasley as the Dark Lord's right hand man, chief armorer and tinkerer supreme has some merit to it... Hmmmm.
