Before he could answer, Greta leaned over to inspect it. "It is passable. Does my cousin not buy you jewelry himself?"

"I don't like receiving jewelry as gifts," Duela replied. She took a moment more to admire the ring but decided against it as her eyes moved to other pieces.

"Ah. Perhaps it is just as well. Cousin Jonathan does not strike me as the kind who remembers to do this thing." She gazed at the cases, practically sniffing in disdain.

Duela reminded herself that she was not, under any circumstances, to harm Jonathan's family. Even if this girl was tempting her. Tempting her quite a lot, actually.

"Jonathan has been very generous with the jewelry and clothes and other items to be found in his home."
