More thoughts on Rucka leaving DC

Like most fans of Renee, the announcement that Rucka is leaving really bothered me. What also bothered me was my perception that Batwoman was more on people's minds than the Question. If you just browse the recent Women in Comics blog links like I do, it is obvious who is on people's minds. I like Batwoman, but I like Renee more. Plus, it has been Read more... )

I agree--I'm pretty worried about Renee. I think it's awesome that a GLBT character is getting such a big push forward (and with characterization that is not "LOOK TWO GIRLS ARE KISSING"), but man, I wish it was Renee. And Rucka was really the one who made Renee what she is, so I hope other writers will care as much. (Dear Gail Simone: Renee would be so so awesome in Birds of Prey. Just sayin'.)

But on the bright side, look at another Hispanic legacy hero who's replaced a fan favorite--Jaime Reyes. He's doing pretty well for himself, even when his series get canceled, and the writers aren't throwing him away to bring back their favorite Blue Beetle who they grew up with. I sincerely hope Renee goes this route. (And, for that matter, that she teams up with Jaime sometime!)

I think it would be really cool if they had a legacy book like that- with the two Charlton heroes. That would be really fun. I'm actually surprised they haven't had Jaime team up with Renee. I can't see any reason that they wouldn't? Perhaps they thought the books didn't have a similar enough style?

Yeah, my problem is I like the old and new Blue Beetle and Question. So, if they killed off the new ones to bring back the old ones, I wouldn't be able to enjoy it.
