Oh, well, I tried.
Those Ravel songs are wonderful, aren't they? I know just enough about their origin to wish I knew more (they were written for a movie about Quixote, to which Ravel was writing the incidental music, but these three songs were all he was able to accomplish before he died; I have no idea if the movie was ever actually made).
I think the Op. 131 is also my favorite of the late quartets. Maybe because it's the one I got to know well earliest in my life. And because that variation movement is just so amazing.
