I think a lot of people are really excited about this election for the very reason you describe; change IS hope. I mean, we've been suffering under the "leadership" of a president (really, more like an administration) which has had NONE of our best interests are heart. They literally cheated their way in the first time around, which really rocked people's faith in the system, then proceeded to blatantly lie steal and cheat their way through office, tearing down almost every bit of progress that had been made up until that point.
And, now, we have someone who it seems is just like us; tired and sick of all of it, ready to bring the country back from the disgrace and humilitation it's been put through these last eight years.
I can understand being emotional about this election.
