[There is a vicious hunter turning circles in the lake, shrieking eerie music from her pretty throat.]

[She stands motionless by the lake, her arms at her sides, watching the woman--she thinks it's a woman and not something else--curious. She's never seen or heard anything like her before.]

[She looks enough like a woman, doesn't she? As long as she keeps her mouth shut, doesn't expose her shark's teeth. As long as the light doesn't hit her at just the right angle to show that her skin is covered in translucent scales.

Nassau notices that a human is watching her, and she goes quiet for a moment, lowering herself in the water so that only her eyes can be seen; the coquetry of a crocodile.

She swims a little closer, her dark hair flowing in the water behind her.]

[N stays where she is as Nassau approaches, a slight smile on her face, though her gaze is still curious. She doesn't have a reason to be afraid. She doesn't fear anything, back home.]

Hello.

[She tilts her head.]

Hello, child. What is your name?

[A person with animal features isn't completely odd to N. Some Pokémon resemble humans in a way. This isn't the same, but she does have something else to compare it to.]

My name is N. What is yours?

N?

[The siren laughs at her cruelly, swaying back and forth in the water like a snake.]

That's hardly a name.

[She's still smiling faintly, but a sadness comes into her eyes.] You're right. It isn't a real name, but it's the only one I have. [She's begun to wonder if she had another one once, but she'll never know now.]

No one loves you well enough to call you something beautiful.

[She smiles nastily, crawling forward into the muddy backs on the lake.]

[This comment doesn't bother her, and she replies with confidence.] All my friends love me, but they don't give each other names, so why would they give me one? [Pokémon don't need names, and she grew up among them, rarely spending time with other people.] It's beautiful when someone truly knows you, without need for a name, like my friends do. They're always with me.

Do you have a name?

[She gives a cackling laugh. What a stupid little human.]

I am Nassau. Shall we be friends, human?

[N considers this idea, with an earnest seriousness.] Maybe we could be friends. I don't know you yet, Nassau.

We'll spend time together.

[She splashes her legs in the shallow water, her feet lifting in the air and letting them splash back down.]

Come swim with me, I cannot leave the water.

[This was not quite true. For some strange reason, she could easily walk the land, and this lake she drifted in now was not salt water as she truly needed.]

All right. If we're going to become friends, I'll introduce you to another friend of mine.

[N calls over her shoulder, though not in human speech, and it isn't long before a massive white dragon appears, emerging from the trees nearby.] This is Reshiram.

Reshiram won't go swimming, but all three of us can spend time together. [Fire Pokémon tend to avoid the water. It only harms them in attacks, but they dislike being immersed in it. The animal fixes its gaze on Nassau.]

[Nassau doesn't scream, but she does push herself into deeper waters awfully quick. Eyes narrowed up at Reshiram distastefully. Dragons. If a dragon had entered her tribes waters, they would have swarmed the brute, devoured the meat from its massive bones.]

Humans do not keep the company of dragons.

[She complains this sourly. It was certainly a pathetic dragon if it wasn't eating that boy.]

They do where I'm from. Reshiram is a friend from my world, the only who came here with me, though I've made new friends since I arrived. There are probably some more of them nearby, but Reshiram never leaves me.

You don't need to worry. Reshiram won't harm you. [The dragon comes to rest beside N, and she rests a hand on its shoulder with a smile.]
