If you're talking about the rectangular screen and keyboard--there should be a small tower too unless it's a laptop-- that's called a computer. There should be a guide there, but if you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them for you.

Well, first you'll need to turn it on. The power button on most of the computers already in the apartments should be on the tower, which is the tall, rectangular, three-dimensional structure next to it, or maybe on the floor near you with lots of wires sticking out of the back. It's the one with a circle and a line through it, that button. Then the button on the screen itself, also with a circle and a line through it.

These are your basic on and off switches, pretty much. Sorry...still with me?

That computer lab course was useful during the summer after all...
