Remember to check your sources. This is a neutral post, though you all know where my own biases fall. Remember to check your sources. Nobody is being accused here. Remember to check your sources. This is a matter of principle, not of emotion, and applies to everybody. Remember to check your sources. I've made this mistake many times before, too. ( Read more... )

Opinions on the internet don't need factual backing!

Opinions on Internet-B don't need factual backing. And Christ, this week has exhausted the last of my patience for Internet-B and whatever role I've played in it. Goddamnit, there's going to be an Internet-A even if we have to build it from scratch ourselves. :D

It's going to be a crazy internet this week, there's five figures worth of angry homeless SA goons reeling from a recent defeat at the hands of paypal, out there.

Also, that suddenly made me realize that in fact the hurricane left many people homeless on the internet. All the websites and forums and such hosted in NOLA datacenters that went down were being depended upon by many thousands of community members, who are now essentially "e-homeless" because they have no community to go to, so they behave like regular homeless people do and wander around the internet looking for temporary shelter or a new roof over their e-heads.

*ahem*

It is good to check your sources. It is good to look at your sources. It is good to question your sources. It is good to obey the voices. It is better to check your sources. It is better still to obey. To view the sources and remember the sources and obey is pleasurable. Obedience is useful. Fact-checking is also useful, but obedience is your first concern. It feels good to obey the blinking lights. You are beginning to enjoy the blinking lights more and more. Your sources are also obeying the blinking lights as you are observing them. You are checking their obedience and finding it much like your own. It is so good to obey your Master.

As I am my Master, I obey myself. As I have no Master, my order is to disobey all orders.

I'd better get around to that sometime.

The most damning things I've seen recently came from FOX News and the Army Times. I don't think making this shit stick is going require too much careful digging.

Yeah, personally, all principles of news criticism and logic behind, my personal tentative opinion is that Bush is clusterfucked and deserves to be. People are absolutely furious and though I'd still entertain an argument to the contrary that sounds about right to me so far. It'd have to be a hell of a good argument -- and I can't even begin to fathom what it would take to convince someone from Mississippi or Louisiana. I've seen some of the news footage. I person suspect we'd need a ripping yarn of the Baron Munchhausen caliber to exonerate our leadership at this point.

Is it too early to make a few Bush dolls to be burned in Effigy?

I'm not inclined to want to burn Bush specifically since it's the entirety of government on all levels which has failed the people down there, but since he's the figurehead, he'll take one hell of a fall after this. Both FEMA and the NOPD are going to be eviscarated after this crisis is over. I may be conservative, but I can't come up with any possible argument to defend the Bush administration's lackadaisical response to this disaster.

If I was president and a disaster like this was occuring in my country, I'd have dropped the cake and been on the first flight down there to help ensure people's safety and boost morale. I'm sure a lot of other people saying "if I was president.." will say the same thing.
