She heard the water and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Yep, even when she got to go home, she wasn't going to spend the rest of her life in the tower. There was too much she needed to see. She turned around, seeing someone in the field. She recognized Skyla from the distance. She ran over, a smile on her face.
"Hi, Skyla!" she called out as she approached, her eyes widening as she caught sight of the engine, "Oh, wow. Did you make that? Whatever it is?"

"Hello there Rapunzel!" she greeted with a smile, waving excitedly to the other woman. "You came just in time." Gesturing to the engine like a proud parent, she grinned and nodded enthusiastically. "That I did. This here is a miniature airplane engine. I was just about to turn it on."

"Well," she began rubbing her hands together gleefully, "Basically it uses the fuel in there," she pointed to one part with a gloved finger, "to move the pistons here, which powers the rest of whatever machine you hook up to it."

"Well, that looks promising! Do you mind an audience for your tests? you are testing it, I assume."
Reply
"I'm hoping it will be, I've just been getting out a few bugs before my next test. Come and have a seat."
Reply
"Well, this is certainly exciting! You seem to be quite the experienced mechanic, Skyla."

That last exclamation was accompanied by the engine beginning to hum in a slightly ominous fashion.

"An engine?"

Looking up at the sound of another voice, she relaxed a little when she saw the woman she had met at the dance, Austria. "That's right. Do you know much about mechanics?"

While she wasn't exactly brooding, she was in deep thought over the things around her when she stumbled upon another girl and a machine of some sort. She stood back, looking over the scene quietly. Normally, she would have kept walking. The affairs of humans were not Jean's own, but these weren't normal circumstances.
"What are you working on?"

Yet, as a Gym Leader, there was a certain amount of professionalism she had to show at all times, and so when the serious looking blond woman approached, wearing what appeared to be armor. Having seen stranger get ups at any League meeting, she gave a friendly smile and rose to her feet, dusting off her knees. "I was trying to build an engine, like the sort you could use to power a plane."

Better to ask now, get it out of the way, and file the information later, where she could sort it all out. Jean leaned forward somewhat, her silver eyes roaming over the engine that had been built. "And what is the problem you're having with your project?"
Reply
"A plane is a type of vehicle that allows for controlled flight. Unlike a balloon, it's not at the mercy of wind currents, and it can free humans from the restraints of gravity, and allow us to cross vast distances in no time at all." She almost went on to say that they allowed people to carry far more cargo than any Pokemon, before remembering that this woman likely didn't know what a Pokemon was.
The mention of a problem reminded Skyla of just why she had been so frustrated a moment ago, and her enthusiastic expression took a rather serious hit. "I wish I knew. For some reason, every time I turn it on, something completely inexplicable happens. I mean, the last time I did, it turned a woman invisible! I can't even begin to understand how that is even possible!"

So when she stumbled across the redhead she met at the Ball, she decided she might as well investigate. Sauntering her way over with her usual fake cheer, she let out a sharp whistle to get the other girl's attention.
"What do you have there, Skyla?"

Really, this was more frustrating than being treated like a taxi cab by Professor Juniper.
"Hello there Larxene." She sighed. "Right now I have something that should be an engine, but is proving to be more trouble than it's worth."

Though it's clearly technology. That's Vexen's forte, not hers.
"An engine? What seems to be the trouble?" she asked, like there was anything she could do to actually help.
