23- for tuture reference. This will be amusing :| magicglowyhair April 18 2011, 03:12:53 UTC
Rapunzel was wandering around the gardens again. She was curious to explore the new area the Queen had given them, but she wasn't brave enough to go on her own. Perhaps when other people were striking up an expedition she could tag along. She never got tired of all the things to see. It was different every time she went out. It was breathtaking. To think she had thought she was going to spend the rest of her life in her tower. As scary as it all could be, she thought this was definitely one of the best things to ever happen to her.

She heard the water and closed her eyes, taking a deep breath. Yep, even when she got to go home, she wasn't going to spend the rest of her life in the tower. There was too much she needed to see. She turned around, seeing someone in the field. She recognized Skyla from the distance. She ran over, a smile on her face.

"Hi, Skyla!" she called out as she approached, her eyes widening as she caught sight of the engine, "Oh, wow. Did you make that? Whatever it is?"

Extending a hand to switch on the engine, Skyla paused when she heard a warm friendly voice calling out to her. Looking up, she saw Rapunzel running towards her across the field, her amazing hair trailing behind her in waves.

"Hello there Rapunzel!" she greeted with a smile, waving excitedly to the other woman. "You came just in time." Gesturing to the engine like a proud parent, she grinned and nodded enthusiastically. "That I did. This here is a miniature airplane engine. I was just about to turn it on."

Carefully, but excitedly, danced around the contraption, her eyes wide as she studied it. She'd never seen such a thing. Skyla had mentioned flying, but she couldn't figure out how this engine would do that. "How does it work?" she asked, finally coming to a stop near Skyla.

Rapunzel's enthusiasm was infectious, or perhaps Skyla was a but less composed herself than a Gym Leader normally should be. Either way, she began to fidget excitedly as the other woman danced around her creation, the itching in her fingers becoming a burning to try out her new toy.

"Well," she began rubbing her hands together gleefully, "Basically it uses the fuel in there," she pointed to one part with a gloved finger, "to move the pistons here, which powers the rest of whatever machine you hook up to it."

She does love the promise of machinery in the morning. Coming across Skyla and the engine she seems to have recently fabricated is the highlight of her walk so far today. She gives Sklya a friendly wave and a smile as she approaches.

"Well, that looks promising! Do you mind an audience for your tests? you are testing it, I assume."

Pursing her lips, Skyla studied the engine with a critical eye, trying to figure out what had happened with her earlier test. Focused on her work, it took her a moment to acknowledge Reeve's approach, but when she finally did she gave the other woman a friendly greeting.

"I'm hoping it will be, I've just been getting out a few bugs before my next test. Come and have a seat."

Reeve did as she was told, seating herself nearby so as not to miss anything.

"Well, this is certainly exciting! You seem to be quite the experienced mechanic, Skyla."

"I'm glad you noticed," she replied playfully, bending down to make the final adjustments. "I actually have much better mechanics back home, but I can't think of any pilots I know who would take off without making sure their plane meets there own specificati-oh! There we go."

That last exclamation was accompanied by the engine beginning to hum in a slightly ominous fashion.

Curious to the commotion, Austria, who happened to be nearby, makes her way over to Skyla to see what's going on. Skyla certainly was an eccentric person, Austria had noticed. Whatever she was up to could be worth checking out.

"An engine?"

Sighing, Skyla brushed a strand of hair from her eyes, her earlier enthusiasm having become tempered by repeated failures. Despite those set backs, however, she was determined to make her device work. After all, Touko's Ferris Wheel had shown no signs of the odd side effects this engine was, so there had to be a way to get it to work.

Looking up at the sound of another voice, she relaxed a little when she saw the woman she had met at the dance, Austria. "That's right. Do you know much about mechanics?"

Sighing softly, Austria shook her head. "I'm afraid not. It's never been anything I've studied. I take it it's not working properly?"

A slight crack appeared in Skyla's smile, confirming Austria's suspicions without her having to open her mouth. "I'm afraid not," she admitted with a sheepish shrug. "So far it's...well, it's done nothing itself, but really weird events take place whenever I turn it on."

The gardens were interesting, if Jean allowed herself to give them that much of a compliment. But it was strange, to be in a place without yoma, and ultimately, without a purpose. Being alive, having Clare around, they were things she could enjoy. It still didn't erase all that she was or all that had happened, and it definitely didn't stop Jean wondering where they were and why they were even here.

While she wasn't exactly brooding, she was in deep thought over the things around her when she stumbled upon another girl and a machine of some sort. She stood back, looking over the scene quietly. Normally, she would have kept walking. The affairs of humans were not Jean's own, but these weren't normal circumstances.

"What are you working on?"

Sighing, Skyla mentally suppressed the urge to beat her head against the uncooperative device laid out before her. Normally a upbeat and undauntable soul, the young pilot had found herself reaching the very edge of her patience as no matter what she tried the engine she had created seemed hell bent on doing everything but actually power anything.

Yet, as a Gym Leader, there was a certain amount of professionalism she had to show at all times, and so when the serious looking blond woman approached, wearing what appeared to be armor. Having seen stranger get ups at any League meeting, she gave a friendly smile and rose to her feet, dusting off her knees. "I was trying to build an engine, like the sort you could use to power a plane."

"A plane," Jean repeated, resisting the urge to tilt her head at the girl. Uncertainty rose in her. An engine, yes she believed she knew what those were. But this plane... "What exactly is one of those?"

Better to ask now, get it out of the way, and file the information later, where she could sort it all out. Jean leaned forward somewhat, her silver eyes roaming over the engine that had been built. "And what is the problem you're having with your project?"

Jean's question wasn't surprising, even back home there were lots of people who didn't really understand planes all that well. Luckily, the subject of them happened to be one of Skyla's favorites.

"A plane is a type of vehicle that allows for controlled flight. Unlike a balloon, it's not at the mercy of wind currents, and it can free humans from the restraints of gravity, and allow us to cross vast distances in no time at all." She almost went on to say that they allowed people to carry far more cargo than any Pokemon, before remembering that this woman likely didn't know what a Pokemon was.

The mention of a problem reminded Skyla of just why she had been so frustrated a moment ago, and her enthusiastic expression took a rather serious hit. "I wish I knew. For some reason, every time I turn it on, something completely inexplicable happens. I mean, the last time I did, it turned a woman invisible! I can't even begin to understand how that is even possible!"

Larxene had little to do these days other than wander the Gardens, looking for something to entertain herself with. She didn't really care to go home any time soon, and she cared little for the Queen, either, at this point. The only thing she had in mind was fun.

So when she stumbled across the redhead she met at the Ball, she decided she might as well investigate. Sauntering her way over with her usual fake cheer, she let out a sharp whistle to get the other girl's attention.

"What do you have there, Skyla?"

That sharp whistle likely saved the engine's existence, as Skyla was seriously considering just having Skarmory just tear it apart for the good of the everyone. She didn't like to admit failure, and she certainly hated giving up, but by this point she was honestly worried that someone might get hurt next time she turned it on.

Really, this was more frustrating than being treated like a taxi cab by Professor Juniper.

"Hello there Larxene." She sighed. "Right now I have something that should be an engine, but is proving to be more trouble than it's worth."

Frustration? Now there was an emotion Larxene was deeply familiar with. She was more used to causing it than just witnessing it, though. Still, all the more reason to poke and prod and find out just what was going on. Ways to bother people are always worth discovering.

Though it's clearly technology. That's Vexen's forte, not hers.

"An engine? What seems to be the trouble?" she asked, like there was anything she could do to actually help.
