[Utena finds her way to the lake a little while after. She's not much in the mood for this, the socializing, but it'll do her some good, she imagines. It hadn't gone over well before when she'd tried to distance herself from others, and it'll probably be no different this time.
She shows up with a towel swung over her shoulder, and waves to the girl who'd invited her.]
[Utena hesitates for a second, and then goes over to sit down next to Vanille.]
Thanks for inviting me. [A moment of silence, wherein she stretches out her legs and touches her toes. It's good, to be around someone so openly friendly, but her recent experiences have her quieter than she'd normally be.] This was a nice idea, after everything that's been going on. [Her smile comes a little easier now, and is brighter than it was before.]
[Drawing her knees up to her chest so she can rest her arms on them, Vanille beams.] You're welcome!
I thought so, too. When people are sad, or worried, I want to do what I can to help them feel better. [Her smile turns bittersweet for a long moment, and she turns away, seeking some measure of peace in watching others entertain themselves.] I wish I could do more... [She frowns a little.] It's not right, that Queen taking people from their homes, and making all these strange things happen.
[Then, true to her nature, she seems to shrug it off - literally and figuratively. She turns back to Utena, smile genuine once more.] But I think... as long as we look out for each other, everything will be all right.
I think if you're doing everything you can, that's enough, right? [Her eyebrows knit together.] It's not right she takes us away from home, but you know, I think it's good you're making the best of it. [Quietly, she adds:] Everyone can't do that.
[Utena returns Vanille's smile, and holds out her hand.] My name's Utena, by the way.
[BEAMING. Hello new best friend besides Fang who is more like a husbando anyway.] Well, we'll just have to work extra hard for the people who can't, won't we?
[She takes Utena's hand and shakes it.] I'm Vanille!
[Her smile widens a fraction, when Vanille introduces herself.] Heh, that's a cute name. It suits you, I think. [She stands up, stretches an arm behind her head, and finally thinks to take a look around.] Say, has anyone used that rope swing yet?
[Vanille claps, totally delighted.] You were great! [She begins clambering up the tree to grab onto the rope.] My turn!
[And she pushes off, shrieking with laughter before she lets go. She hits the water in an awkward canonball, and surfaces, squinting and rubbing her stinging side.] Ouch!
[She's not really hurt, though, and after a second she breaks out in giggles.] Maybe next time I'll try not to land like that...
But there's no ocean or sea. How're we supposed to have a beach party?

[Clapping her hands excitedly aww yeah.] Does that mean you'll come?
Reply
Yeah, why not? I don't have anything else going on.

A delighted scream and a huge splash later, and Utena resurfaces, her expression bright and elated.] That was fun!
