Update, I still hate this place.

Seriously. I tripped on a dead cat this morning. Not like, normal dead, but like, "watch out, Jigsaw's on the loose," dead.

[Mahalia looks exhausted, and she's speaking very quietly.]

Where did you find her? Did you leave her there?

Okay. I'll just... [She looks around them again, picks a random direction, towards the orchards.] this way.

[She walks a little way, then cuts off the path, away from the fruit vines and towards one of the little streams. She finds a quiet spot under an apple tree and kneels again, laying down the dead cat in the blanket and flowers before looking back at Santana, offering out the garden trough to her.]

Would you like to help dig?

[She could use her hands. Had done, on the first few, before straying into the wilds to collect some sand to make the trough.]

[Santana sighs. Sure, why not? She takes the trough, and sits down on the ground on her knees, and begins digging.]

[Mahalia helps, with her bare hands, digging alongside her quietly. When the hole is big enough, she moves the bundled cat into it gently, and then lays the flowers down on top. She murmurs some quiet prayers, poetic words about the flow of nature and life, spirit returning to the earth, then she begins to pull the soil back in over it. When she's done, she looks up at Santana with a sad, quiet smile.]
