On Monday we went to Mat-Su glacier--it was so, so beautiful. I'm not a nature person, but wow. WOW. So I don't have much commentary on these pictures, because they would all be LOOK AT THE ICE. OMG LOOK AT THIS ICE.

So I hope you like the pics!

you're as cold as ice! )

picspam, alaska: we're cool

..... WOW!!! You're very lucky, our closest glaciers are in New Zealand and you're not allowed to near them due to chances of ice falls (and many have died). I'm sooo jealous!!

Aw man that sucks. They told us to stick to the snowmachine trails (because if the ice can hold a snowmachine it can probably hold you) but in the summer you can basically go wherever the hell you want--within reason. Usually people have a pretty good idea of what could get them killed, and either way they make you sign a waver that says you can't sue them if you wander off and die!

It's cool that they tell you areas you can and can't go, it still looks more awesome, especially that ice cave and it's funky ripples... and also the colours in the ice.

This is so beautiful, looks really impressive. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that in person, so it's hard to imagine what it would really look like, to complete the blanks...

It is REALLY REALLY COOL! These are actually tombolguid's pictures (i forgot my camera like an idiot) and yeah, I wish we'd been able to put something in the shots to give you perspective on how freaking massive everything is.

Very 'cool'. I really like the ones with the smooth wavelike texture. Lovely sunny day, too.

The weather was PERFECT. And only a little bit windy where we parked the car, the rest of it was sunny as hell (I even put on sunblock because I am a wuss and burn watching fireworks)

Very cool! Er, literally and figuratively. I've seen a couple of glaciers--Mendenhall and another I can't remember the name of that we saw from the balcony of our cruise ship stateroom. Oh! and the one at the top of Mt. Alyeska. They were awesome, but nothing like this.

NICE! You mean Alyeska here in Alaska? I've been up there, but only for the skiing--I had no idea there was a glacier there! Or, idk, maybe someone told me and I wasn't paying attention, eep.

Yes Alaska! We were there in summer and we took the tram to the to and there was ice. Not big or impressive but it was July, so. And people were hang gliding off the mountain and my husband want to so it so bad but didn't. And a lot of big rodent things running around on the mountainside...marmots, maybe?

That was a 2-week trip....best vacation EVER.

Oh cool! Last time I was up there it was so foggy we could barely see anything! Could've been marmots, could've been parkie squirrels too!

Dude. Tombolguid takes a mean picture. Some of these are amazing. I've seen a glacier or two along the way but nothing like this. C'est magnifique!

Agreed! It doesn't hurt that the scenery was so photo-worthy, but she's awesome! ;D
