Random fact:

The dudes in my family get super grouchy and unreasonable when they're hungry. Like right now, when dad comes home and throws his hands up in the air because mom didn't put potatoes in the roast because SURPRISE, we are sort of steering clear of starches! And even though the roast is done he's insisting on cutting up potatoes and MICROWAVING THEM ( Read more... )

Laughter is good, my family is ridic. Turns out the roast wasn't even neeeeear done, needs to be cooked in something acidic or it's tough as shoe leather, sooooo he had to cook something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT and instead of like, sandwiches, he makes soup which takes ANOTHER HOUR TO COOK WTF.

Yeah, I would probably be eating instant ramen at this point. Like, dressed up ramen! With garlic and ginger and egg-drop and vegetables in it. But freaking ramen, or something else that only takes three minutes.

Or order a pizza! This definitely sounds like pizza night.

...This is some manly pride, thing, right? Like, "NO, WE'RE NOT LOST, OKAY, MAYBE WE'RE LOST, BUT I CAN MAKE US UNLOST, I JUST NEED TIME, GIVE ME THE MAP, NO I'M NOT GIVING IT BACK, I CAN DO THIS." Only with family dinner.

I was going to ask how long it took to microwave potatoes, but having read the comments I now have the whole story.

I feel your pain, because sometimes Dad would be in the mood to cook dinner on the weekend or something, and it would end up being a recipe that took ages, 'cos MEN ARE CHEFS. We would get so HUNGRY.

Oh no, he still microwaved the potatoes. And it took about....ten/fifteen minutes? Maybe more? I stopped going into the kitchen, too weak from hunger.

YES wtf is with I AM A MAN, MEN USE RECIPES, I KNOW WHAT ZEST IS, RAH RAH RAH mentality going around? IF YOU USE A RECIPE, CHECK HOW MUCH TIME IT'S GOING TO TAKE, FFS. And meanwhile, we'll keep an emergency stash of food.

To be fair, he calmed down about it after a while, and started doing things like beer-battered fried fish, which cooks in no time at all. OH NOM NOM NOM. I wish I had some fish to cook now.
