I'm also super amused by this. You didn't mention they were Japanese space pirates on Twitter. I would have had questions.

But now there's this super informative post and all my questions have been resolved and I want to watch it all because it's been forever since I watched any J-dramas since like, Hana Yori Dango.

HELLO RANDOM COINCIDENCE. It has also been years since I have watched any random J-dramas. And the last one I saw? HANA YORI DANGO.

I haven't seen all of this yet, even! Just the episodes about Joe, Marv, and Luka. I should really get around to the rest, but those probably don't feature Joe getting punched in the face quite as often.

ALL OF THE TROPES IN THE SHOW MAKE ME SO HAPPY. It is ridiculous. Slave collars. Hair pulling. MOTHERFUCKING SPACE PIRATES. I can't even.

I haven't delved into the fandom itself yet, but there are subtitled episodes available for download here. Episodes 11, 12, 30, and 31 are the source of almost all of these gifs. (I forget when Basco first shows up and don't have time to check just now, but 31 is his return with the hair pulling and whatnot.)

Basco shows up in 15. 15/16 is the two parter where he kidnaps the crew to taunt Marv and kicks Joe in the face.

And episode 4 is the one with the CAKE OF FEELINGS.

UM. NOT THAT I HAVE WATCHED ALL OF THESE EPISODES MULTIPLE TIMES OR ANYTHING.

(Seriously, I really need to get Gokaiger icons.)
