I think that the biggest problem really is that so many of us have such a hard time accepting things from people, for whatever reason. It's rather an epidemic. So we assume that "no thanks, I won't use it" is the SAME THING as "no, I feel guilty that you want to spend money on me, so I have to refuse for form's sake but I REALLY REALLY WANT IT AND CAN'T ADMIT IT". Still trying to work out a way to convince people that "no thanks, I won't use it" actually MEANS "no thanks, I won't use it". I have plenty of stories of shit my mom gave me that I specifically told her NOT TO. Rawr.

Ironically, Eric was just playing Minecraft. He's now obsessed with it, and says that if he'd happily take the membership from you (doesn't mean it but wishes it were the case). Hahaa. I think your case is reasonable though. They ought to understand that you're not as fanatical about games anymore.
