That sounds like a really cute story. The mean old terrorizing dragon with a soft spot for ponies and maintaining his dental hygiene :D
O_o I can't believe you were taken to the erotica section, hehehe
I loved reading as a child! I remember once in grade school we had a contest for 6 weeks over who could read the most books. We got a star for every book we read and whoever read the most would win a prize. I happened to win! My prize? A book.
My favorite stories as a kid were The Velveteen Rabbit, Where the Wild Things Are, Where the Sidewalk Ends, & A Wrinkle in Time.
My dad gave me a copy of S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders when I was around 10 or 11 and I loved it. It's what has inspired me to be a writer as Hinton had written the story when she was 16. I wanted to do the same thing so badly!! And even though I hadn't published my own novel yet (and I'm about 11 years behind my goal, lol) I haven't given up.
I love your story about your book and you are definitely not alone!!
Where the Wild Things Are was my second favorite book as a kid! When it came to the movies I was so nervous but I admit that when they started the rompus, I cried. I absolutely cried. I felt like I was there. It was as if 35 years of longing was complete.
I identified with Max a lot. As a kid (and still to this day) I live in other places inside my mind. Other worlds, other creatures, these are my home. As an adult I live more grounded in the "real" world, but as a kid I was always somewhere else. I felt like Max was the only person in the universe that would understand me.
I entered a contest for reading in elementary over the summer but I didn't win. I did read more than 50 books so I got a prize (also a book!) but I was sad I didn't win. I tried so hard! But I had to learn that I still accomplished something. I am just a fan of winning.
