After this, which is still ongoing. And I realize now that some of her earlier post-return stuff wasn't all that accurate, given her medical sitatuion. That's my own fault for not researching C-section recovery until now! Bad writer, no cookie! It's Cordelia's second day back in Boston. The first 24 hours had been a whirlwind of activity, from ( Read more... )

Fred was curled up on the long, low sofa of -- well, the part that closest to a normal living room downstairs. Wesley still ruled overa all things that was the study. Not that she wasn't welcome, just that mostly, it was his. And most days Methos found a reason to wander off to the library, getting lost in the books and journals there. She always liked the way his hands smelled after. Like new things she wanted to learn, and all he'd just reminded himself that he already knew. Fred normally found a reason to touch his hands then, hoping that osmosis kicked in.

So the almost living room that wasn't quite as cozy upstairs, but at least down here, with them. It's where she tended to gravitate to, one book in hand, and two or three more stacked at the foot of the sofa. She was just exchanging one book for another when a knock sounded at the fron door, and with all the rights of she-who-is-closest, Fred went to open it ( ... )

Cordelia smiled slightly and nodded, still braced for the inevitible hugging. Or denial and possible slayage attempts, depending on which way this ended up going.

"It's me. Not dead. Again."

Fred did the most ridiculous thing of all, dropping to her knees to retrieve the book. She supposed this was shock. After all, she'd spent...months now trying to convince Wesley was really gone, when he was so sure she wasn't. She'd been so worried he wouldn't let do, and so in the end she'd had to go the other way. Firm in the knowledge that they had lost their friend.

And then go and look at Wesley. Right. Again.

Fred was sort of frozen on the floor, looking up at her friend.

"It's...I mean. Cordy....you're not..."

That's when she launched into the hug. From about four feet down.

"Oof!" Okay, ow. That hurt. But Cordelia's still happy for the hug, and returns it gingerly.

"No," she gasps. "I'm not. Wolfram & Hart... I still don't know what they did, but they took me."

((just to let you know, I thought Fred and Cordy could tag back and forth first, then get Wes. That way poor Cordy isn't bombarded))

Works fine for me! She'd probably appreciate the lack of bombarding right now. :)
