what do you know about genocide and/or ethnic cleansing?

how important do you think it is to know about it?

I know a bit about the Darfur situation. I do think that it's a fairly important topic, considering the fact that it's been relevant throughout the 90's and into the present.

why do you think people should know about it?

Note: this is coming from someone who is only scratching the surface knowledge-wise, but I think that it's really disheartening to imagine that humans would be ignorant to the systematic elimination of other humans. It's just...icky, for lack of a better term. This probably comes off as really sophomoric, but still.
