Are people crying racism? I guess I can kind of see why; the antagonist appears to be a big bad voodoo witch doctor, the kind that's more of a scary ethnic sorceror than an actual healer, while the 'good guys' are represented with either a European monarchy or a jazzy New Orleans vibe, only being black in an inoffensive Westernized way. Mostly I just thought it was a little obvious that they were desperate to add a black girl to their Disney Princesses line.
Anyway, I'm glad to see Disney hasn't abandoned traditional animation entirely. I think they'd been threatening to do so for a long while and possibly already had at some point.
I don't know, as I don't pay attention. But I vaguely remember seeing one site that suggested there were those that complained that the prince wasn't black as well, which is pretty much ridiculous. Oh noes, inter-racial love story! But I have no doubt that somebody somewhere is finding something to be offended over.
Well I know there will be explosions! You know those Hollywood people have to make everything more extreeeeeeme because they think that is the only way anyone will watch it...I don't know, I think it should be entertaining regardless, but I guess I'm not the sort to mind too much about accuracy. I got over that back when I still cared about Harry Potter. :D;
It really did seem like the director said "here's some stuff from the books and also some stuff we made up, let's make a movie!" Most of the time I just pulled faces at the couples and made fun of Draco.
I theorize that Draco had a map of all the best brooding locations in the castle. Whenever he felt the need to go somewhere and be emo he'd pick one out and go brood away. XD
