We ended up playing just fine, of course :P And according to my teacher (who played the concert with us because our section was a bit thin), he didn't do as well at the concert as he did at the two dress rehearsals preceding it. Apparently he missed an octave or two on one of the crazy double-stop runs. Tsk tsk.
