The new departure's concourse at Kings Cross Station is very pretty.

Because of planned engineering works my travelling to London took an hour extra and went via Cambridge and into Kings Cross. Having not been there for over a year I'd not seen the new Departures Concourse and was thoroughly impressed. Have some pictures.

You've seen both, is it the same as the British Museum cover?

It looks similar but I am not sure how related it is.

Wow! This is great! I have been to Kings Cros once several years ago, it was under construction. This is really impressive. Also, like reapermum, I thought of the British Museum and its similar architecture in that new big dome:-)

Lovely. I've passed the station but don't recall if I've been inside. We must have stayed nearby or been lost or something because I remember using it as a visual reference as we were passing it quite a bit on at least one day.

Agree - it's fabulous. Such a change from the dingy old King's Cross. Saturday was the first time I'd seen the coloured light effect switched on. I noticed that all the outlets in the old concourse seem to have closed, so I hope that some equally stunning development is now going to happen there too. :-)

I'f I'd known you were around Kings Cross on Saturday (when I was around) I would have tried to day 'hi'. Didn't know it was the first time the lights had been turned on. Why are they purple? Something to do with it being a regal colour?

Apparently they are going to clear all the old shops and make an open area or something. I found quite a bit about it on Wikipedia.
