After Beccles we went to Bungay (home of Black Shuck the Demon Dog who The Darkness sang about) to have a look at the lovely old round towered All Saints Church:

Wow - I have never seena church with a round tower, which is typical of castles. It seems that this church might also be intended a shelter in the time of war...
This head on the font is slightly different from other Green Men - the greenely actually does not grow from it. And yes, I can see deep wrinkles in this long-haired head.
Now I am confused: how can I recognise when there is St. Michael fighting the dragon, and when St. George? Here we have St. George and a Dragon...

This church is called St Michael at Plea. It stands right beside the site of Norwich's Folk Moot Site, called the Red Well. Here justice was administered and the Heathen Religion was followed. A later use was as a church court. The church is within Meters of a Roman Road. A little way away is a St George Church. St Michael is shown killing a dragon representing Satan and Sin. This is normal iconography in the UK.

So far I had no idea that St. Michael and St. George were BOTH dragon-slayers:-)
