I've wanted to learn how to write fiction for quite a while now, so I've been reading books about the subject, but have never gathered the courage to actually put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard) and try my hand at a piece of long fiction (10-20,000 words).  I do a fair amount

I might. The Big Bang mods have requested that we not publicly post our stories until the reveal date (to preserve the element of surprise), but I think general discussions of trials and tribulations are allowed!

But deus ex is so classical! That aside, sounds like an interesting challenge and I'm sure a valuable one too, as a learning technique. I hope you have fun with it!
