all advice I've heard, (and given) says don't write your dissertation on something you're not interested in. It's just not worth it. personally, I'd take the masters and transfer to an applied math department. If that's what you want to do, you should do it.

Yeah, I've thought a lot about that too. I'll get my masters in May. It's too late for me to apply (and receive TA support) for the Fall 2005 semester. I'd have to work for a year and shoot for 2006.

Thanks for the comment. I'm gonna think on it some more. I'd really prefer to not stay in this research group. Maybe I should just go for it...

well, working till 2006 wouldn't be terrible. It's probably better than working at flying starbucks. unless it isn't. And who knows, maybe the math department will need ta's/ga's as desperately as the physics department. But it never hurts to loiter around the math department, you know, getting to know what people do, see what strikes your fancy, see who has money.

I also thought being a priest would just be something totally different. I'm always DPS and this would mix it up a bit. I'm specced mostly shadow for leveling. Once I catch up with the rest of us, I'll respec to holy...then everyone dies cuz I don'ts knows how to healz I must do my addon research and manage to become useful.

As far as the school stuff...I should just go for it. Life is stupid and I might as well try to enjoy it.
