There was a wedding one day.
Then Tatsuya’s mum asked, “Tatchan, would you like to be a handsome groom like that man when you grow up big?”
“No”, came the todder’s solid reply.
“No?” she echoed in much curiosity, “why not? Who do you want to be?”
And then Tatsuya did the cutest, most innocent thing by holding the tiny fingers of the other pair of tiny hands beside his, and in pure radiance with the warmest sunshine smile and shouts, “JUNNO's BRIDE!”.
…
Years later, they’re filling out their high school counselling career form.
“I don't know what I want to become”, Tatsuya sighed, looking at the blank sheet.
“What happened to becoming my bride?” Junno snickered.
Tatsuya laughed, “I did say that, didn't I? And then his mind wondered off somewhere and he mumbled, "kids really have no sense of gender, do they?"
Junno snatched the paper from him and scribbled on the sheet saying, “my groom, my bride - you can be my anything”.
…
“Pack your bag, grab your passport and let’s go”, Junno abruptly told him one evening.
“Uh? Go where?”
“Sweden”.
“But so sudden?” Tatsuya exclaimed, even though he was doing just as told, “what's happening there?”
Junno grinned, and he slipped the ring on Tatsuya’s finger.
…
“We’ll be together for all eternity”, Junno supplied, watching the mostly purple sunset with bits of dotted orange.
“Idiot. We’ll die way before then”.
Junno tsks, “try being a little romantic, will you?”
Tatsuya turned in Junno’s lap and poured his black eyes into Junno’s brown heaven and asked, “how much more romantic should I be, um? When I love you every living day and more than anything?”
"You...", Junno grumbled and wrapped his arms around him, "that's cheating".
…
T: When is your next day off?
J: I think six months from now. You?
T: Worse. Maybe seven or eight.
J: Shit. Want to go for a drive by the seaside?
Apparently;
T: Yeah. I can’t believe we’ll be a no show at our own wedding.
They missed their flight.
…
“Come to think of it, when did we become a couple?” Tatsuya asks, changing foot for Junno to massage, “was it you who confessed or was it me?”
Junno hums, “I don’t think either of us did”.
“That’s strange. So how did we end up together?”
“Simple”, Junno replies, kissing Tatsuya's heel and toes, “we’re simply meant to be”.
