Sorry I didn't respond!!! This whole week I have been trying to force myself to read this stuff about psychoanalytic theory for a class. So your reference to Freud just threw me a little. It made me think about what I was supposed to be doing instead of reading fic. Also, I was contemplating why the hard candy might help so much, and just PTSD treatment in general. Also, I can't imagine Josh keeping up with yoga with his schedule but with a body like that it does sort of make sense. In addition, the line about Donna slamming the door had me replaying that moment in my head over and over which is one of my all time favorite moments. Now I'm going back to the first line and realizing that I don't know what kind of medication works for PTSD. I wonder if they just use regular anxiety meds. Yes it's just a little drabble, but dangerous for currently neurotic psych grad student.
My God! Who knew 100 words could have so much significance!
It's so interesting seeing the questions that were raised for someone who actually studies psychology. (And I can't tell you how happy I am that no read flags were raised!) I did think that it was general anxiety meds that Josh would be refusing. I did do some quick research on Wikipedia and they listed some drugs that were used, but I don't know how acurate that was, so I didn't pay too much attention.
I actually got this idea because those with focus noticed the candy in EOTNS and the gum chewing and hopping around when the siren suddenly sounded. I'm not sure how it would work... unless it helps with the stress level.
And the yoga thing was mostly added because Brad Whitford is apparently quite the practitioner. And once you know what you doing, you don't necissarily have to go to class if your schedule doesn't let you.
Thank you so much for responding, Dee! You made my night!
I really like this drabble! (But you already knew that.)
I needed a break from the mountain of homework I’m doing so I went searching in the hopes that your new fic would be up. It wasn’t, but I’m not (that) bitter because I got to read this again!
Really inspired use of the prompt candy. But really, I wouldn’t expect anything less from you!
Anyways, please feel free to create more awesome fics so I can use them to take breaks from epic proportions of homework. I appreciate it immensely!
P.S: This review is exactly one hundred words long! :D
Great work Quaggy. I'm in awe of people who can write but the whole getting it into 100 words just astounds me.
A RL note: my dad takes heart medicine and lately has been complaining that his mouth is dry and hard candy (well, he didn't call it that) is the only thing that works. Totally cracked me up because of Josh, and I'd 'seen' him sucking on lollies (there's the australian slipping back) in fics that specifically mentioned a dry mouth as a heart medicine side effect. Dad was pleased that I had an explanation. And I was pleased to realise I learned quite a bit from fan fic.
And that's far more than anyone wanted to know :-)
Too bad that for all the detail, most fanfic writers missed the fact that Josh didn't have heart surgery! The bullet knicked artory going to his lungs!! :-P But I'm glad you and your dad got some practical information out of it!
