A random assortment of potentially (but doubtfully) valuable things

1. So I'm sure many of you know about that video about Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony produced by the NGO Invisible Children that went viral a couple of days ago (if you don't know what I'm talking about, look up "Kony 2012" on YouTube). The video has become quite a big deal, generating a lot of buzz and publicity in a remarkably short amount of time ( Read more... )

I'm going to make your day better ;)

On your fandom note, you should definitely read some work by lordhellebore. She has exactly the fics you're looking for, concerning multiple fandoms. Probably one of the best writers I've ever met, and a brilliant friend. She's super friendly! So don't hesitate to contact her and ask her about her fics and recommendations.

I'll save my opinion about Kony for now, until I've made up my mind. I should read up on the things you just liked us *nods*

And thanks for the recs; I appreciate it! I don't share fandoms with her, but I'm willing to give her fics a try. ;-)

I never read the books or watched the movies. The series just didn't appeal to me, I guess. ._.,

"Yeah, there are times when I don't like putting that much effort into reading a multi-chapter fic, and I like fluff and slash and porn as much as everyone else, but long fics that explore new facets to the characters, settings, and themes we're so familiar with are almost always worth it when done well."

I really agree with you :) It takes time and dedication, but I really love reading those kinds of fic. About a week or so ago, I read a fic called "The Anatomist", in which Molly and Moriarty from Sherlock are siblings. It was a wonderful read, very well thought out, and suspensful too. Here's the link if you want to take a look: http://rosa-acicularis.livejournal.com/30916.html#cutid1

I understand; it's really easy to get caught up in the fervor of the campaign. The video is very slickly-made, and raises a lot of good points, I admit. But I'm very lucky to know people who know a lot about aid and human rights in sub-Saharan Africa, so when I see anything having to do with Africa these days, red flags go up in my mind. I really hope this campaign fizzles out, because the potential consequences it might have to foreign policy may be very dire.

I don't know why I liked German shepards so much when I was younger; I guess I just thought they looked cool. Still wouldn't know how to take care of one, though. XD

I need to get more in the habit of thoroughly looking into things, like I used to. I don't really have time anymore... or rather I'm spending my time differently, haha.

Yeah, I have this same problem too, and I'm not even as busy as you are. XD

Energetic, you say? I guess if I really wanted a dog, I think I'd prefer one that was a little more laid-back. I'm not sure how much "energetic" I could handle. :3
