* Happy Halloween everyone! I admit I'm not keen on it like some other people are -- I find it pretty tacky, and I'm not the kind of guy who likes to bring attention to himself by dressing up in silly costumes. But I'm certainly not about to spoil anyone's fun, and I appreciate a cool costume, like a lot of those in
this thread. It's also why I feel ambivalent toward the idea of cosplay -- I really like the "cos" a lot of times, but not so much the "play." ^_^;
* This past week has to have been the worst week I've had so far this semester. First of all, it turns out I bombed my geology exam -- I didn't fail it, but a D is nothing to be proud of. -_-; The girl sitting next to me got a similar grade, though, and I'm aware some others did too, so I know I'm not alone, but still. And then there was the GIS project, which I finished Friday afternoon, but not after rushing to get it done (setting up interviews, making maps, getting information from the town planner, and then writing the damn thing at the last minute, which turned out to be longer than what was asked for even if the last couple of sections were rushed). It was extremely stressful, especially since our professor was deliberately vague about what he wanted from us, so there's the distinct possibility that I did this completely wrong. But I did put a lot of effort into it, and the result is something that I'm at least a little bit proud of, so if I get anything lower than a B- on it, I will be very angry.
Oh yes, and yet another existential crisis. I want to write about it, since I feel it's worth talking about, but now is not the time.
I really hope the workload eases up after this. I still have a decent amount of work for my geology class, but I'm not sure how much more writing I need to do for my other two classes -- I hope it's not a lot (and I hope the paper I handed in for GIS on Friday is the only one for that class). J-term and spring semester can't come soon enough. :/
* Good news: the town had a grand opening celebration of its new bridge in the center of town today! It's great because it bypasses some of the traffic congestion in the center, and provides a more direct way to get to the college; plus, the other bridge is over 100 years old, and if that bridge collapsed and we didn't have the new one, you'd have to travel many miles north or south to cross Otter Creek just to get to the other side of town, since there are so few decent bridges in the area. The new bridge was about 50 years in the making, which is a really long time to wait, but they finally got enough money recently to cover building it, and it's great to see the finished product! I only went for about an hour, but I really enjoyed myself -- I made it just in time to see the parade of historic cars going across the bridge as part of the "first crossing" (led by a horse-drawn carriage similar to the one that first crossed the old bridge nearby, and finished with a
Zipcar driven by some people I know from my ES and GIS seminars), as well as some excellent pizza and tea from the food tent. Those things, and finally being able to walk around on the new bridge, were the only reasons I went. XD
* A reminder: If you want to stay on my f-list,
comment here if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, I have absolutely no clue if you want to stick around or not! (I'll be putting this reminder in every post of mine between now and next Sunday, just so that you don't miss it.)
* Here's a meme that's been going around a lot:
1. Comment in this post with a pairing, a character, or theory.
2. I shall write you back a paragraph explaining what I think about it (good, bad, indifferent) and why.
3. Repost in your own journal if you want.
Fandoms: Transformers (G1 cartoon only), Avatar: the Last Airbender, Durarara!!, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Planetes, District 9 (even though I haven't seen this in a while), Pixar, music (it counts!), and anything else you think I might be able to answer. ;-) And the more creative the question, the better! (And I certainly don't mind multiple questions if you want.)
* Or y'all could do this one, stolen from

You respond to this entry by telling me one true thing about yourself. It can be anything about you, big or small, silly or serious, and I’ll respond by telling you one true thing about me and so on and so forth until one or both of us dies of old age, becomes bored, or solves the case and catches the serial killer.
