What is it with colds that, a couple of days in, you can't remember what it was like not to have a cold?!

Seriously, did I ever NOT used to get so wiped out doing normal things that I needed to sleep ten hours a night, plus two hours in the middle of the day just to recover?

Um...sorry...my Mom Mode just kicked in...

Have you been to the doctor? Something like this that hangs on for a while sort of sounds like mono--at least that's how I felt when I had mono back in the Middle Ages. (I'm assuming it hasn't been eradicated since then. It has been a while.)

Mom Mode off now. We return to our regularly scheduled lusting after admiration of assorted British men.

I'm given to understand that people with mono are a lot sicker than I am just now...or at least have a higher fever? I dunno. The lingering-ness and overbearing fatigue certainly seem in line with its symptoms though.

I did go to the doctor last week, yeah - he didn't seem too worried; just wrote me a script for some antibiotics in case my fever spiked and told me to try and soldier through it. If I'm still fighting this after a few more days though I reckon I'm going back and asking for some more tests.

Cheers for the concern, though - it's always good to get input from those who've been on the front lines, so to speak. :)

*kicks into Mom mode also*

That's that crap my husband had. It took three refills of 'scrip codeine Robitussin PLUS 12-hour Mucinex w/ cough suppressant (yup, that's a DOUBLE dose of expectorant there, but that's what the doctor ordered) PLUS a nasty antibiotic to cut it loose enough he could get rid of it PLUS real Sudefed and Benadryl.

That's no longer just a virus you've got there madam, it's invited bacteria in to sub-let. Get thee to the doctor, before you end up in the hospital.

I went to the doctor last week, and he didn't seem to concerned...he gave me a script for some antibiotics, but said it was okay to wait to use them unless my temp spiked up into the hundreds or something. (I've got allergies or sensitivities to almost every known class of antibiotics, so I try not to ever take them unless there's really, REALLY no other alternative.)

I did think about an expectorant, though. What's the one with the fewest side effects, in your experience? (Very, very sensitive to medications, me...half a normal dose of whatever usually does me fine.)

*nods* Expectorant makes me a little goofy, too. Mucinex, besides coming in pill form (yay, no nasty cough syrup taste) comes in two different strengths (even though both of them are listed as 12-hour) and also with or without cough suppressant (which will make you even more goofy / sleepy.) Go for the lower strength and stay away from the cough suppressant unless you really need it to sleep.

Sorry 'bout the antibiotics problems. That sucks. I lucked out in that my bod never met an antibiotic that upset it, although nowadays the lower-strength ones are pretty much useless.

Mmmkay, Mucinex lower strength. Gotcha. As remedies go, it's got to beat breathing deeply in a steamy shower and pounding my chest gorilla-style to try and loosen to stuff up enough to get it out.

As I said in another comment above, if this still isn't gone in a few more days I'm going back to the doctor and demanding some more tests. And cheers for the concern/mum mode...it's always good to pick the brains of folks who've had firsthand experience with battling stubborn crud of this nature. :)
