A very dark Wizard of Oz reference

Remember back in Life on Mars 1x02, when Sam saw Gene looking at that The Good, the Bad and the Ugly poster?

There have always been Wizard of Oz references in both shows from the very beginning. And if Sam and Alex are "Dorothy", and certain of my (horrible) ideas about the BBC trailer/finale are right, then

I always thought those three were represented by our junior trio. Shaz needed courage, Ray needed a heart, and Chris needed a brain. Although they were all, in different ways, looking for courage.

You know, though, in Tin Man, the name itself meant cop. Because of the tin badge they all wore.

Ooh, good point about the 'Tin Man' nickname. Along those same lines, the Guv's favourite movie (High Noon) was based on a short story called "The Tin Star", which meant basically the same thing.
