The problem with tumblr is that you really can't chat there properly. Not about just nothing things. Like for instance, I'm at my parents place for the holidays and right now, there are just too many people around. My neice and my brother-to-be-in-law and my sisters and my parents. Which doesn't seem like much, I'm sure, but jesus. I just need ( Read more... )

There are definitely ways to talk on tumbr as you mention, its just theyre not very conducive to conversation I guess. Certainly not mass communication...

Ah well, hopefully the next big thing will have more words.

Happy christmas:-)

I know what you mean, I prefer to be by myself and most of the time pets are better company. They don't complain about the little things and don't demand iPods, it's also good knowing someone else doesn't like being sociable at this time of year (or most of the time)

I too miss when LJ was more popular and people actually replied to entries, now I find if I get a comment it's rare. Happy Holiday and all of that.

yeah, there are just too many ppl to deal with at this time of year. One or two is fine, seven is not. for me anyway.

I suppose Lj could have a resurgence one day... Stranger things...

Tumblr is so political i'm way too scared to post thoughts. If there was a private function for friends it would be amazing... I too love it for what it is, but I miss getting to know ppl via their posts.. Reblogs just isnt the same.

I hope yiu had a good christmas too!

Seriously though, there's just so much hostility over there in regards to social justice, or what the online social justice warriors think social justice should be like. It can become such a toxic environment to be in. People tend to blow things way out of proportion over something, a lot of time spreading misinformation and exaggerating the facts, and there's this "us vs them" hivemind mentality that I don't agree with at all. But if you speak out about it there's a possibility you'll end up getting harassed and it's just, yeah. :/

I tend to try to steer clear of things when shit hits the fan like that, but it seems to be everywhere on that site. Tumblr is a breeding ground for SJW and impressionable people who think being a SJW means fighting for the cause, when in reality no, it's not. If anything it's the exact opposite.

Yes, I feel the same way. I get what Tumblr is for and why it is the way it is, but it's not home for me and it doesn't suit my needs at all.

I miss my LJ friends; it's like nobody's around any more. Which is fine - people have to live their lives wherever they wish - but it's getting a bit lonely here :)

Happy Chrimble to you.

Yeah, see i have recently gotten addicted to tumblr, and i love it, but it is very impersonal, and the only ppl who really develop personalities are the bnfs who are invariably a little too opinionated.

In the same way I love twitter, but it is such a huge time suck, and you can really only talk about whatever drama is happening at that moment.

I think I like Lj because everyone gets a say, regardless of bnf status or whats going on in fandom.

For what its worth, I always read what ppl post on LJ, even if I dont comment so much. I am glad that there are still people who post regularly like yourself. :-)

I read everything too, and I'm glad there are still people around from the old days! But I don't comment much either :) There have been so many posts I've thought "I'll comment on that when I have a bit more time!" and then never have.

Yeah, Twitter is really difficult to hold a conversation on as well. Specially for very wordy people like me!

I love tumblr but it's not great for connecting with people and the whole stigma about making boring text posts is ridiculous and judgemental. I don't know why text based conversations and reblogging pretty pictures have to be mutually exclusive.

I get the guilt trip from some of my family for escaping every year so I faked feeling sick . It's a horrible thing to do but... yeah.

I hope things go smoothly for you if you're still with your family. Merry Christmas!

Yeah, there is way too much politics on Tumblr for my liking! It's really weird about the words vs graphics thing. I think it evolved that way out of it being so new to be just images.. but you'd think it'd evolve to what ppl need...

Faking sick.. yeah, it might be the way to go.. certainly "I have a mental illness and cannot deal with being surrounded by so many people" doesn't work.. they're just all well, get over it.. yup.
