Wolfling and I went to see The Sorcerer's Apprentice last night. I went in with low expectations and enjoyed myself quite a bit. Wolfling started whispering "I love this movie!" only a few minutes into it

The sexiest thing I've seen in a while is Mickey Rourke's top burning off as he stepped onto the roadway as Whiplash in Iron Man 2. If Cage wielding magic is that sexy, then I might have to go watch this movie tomorrow.
You know, that movie has gone a long way in redeeming Nicholas Cage in my eyes, considering the horrendous flop Ghost Rider was.
Did you know Sorcerer's Apprentice was Nick Cage's personal baby? It's his project- he came up with the entire idea.
Anyway, more to my point- I consider those kinds of movies to be the most perfect form of glamourbombing. They get people interested in believing in magic, not just that it exists, but that they themselves can experience it. That's the real tragedy these days- people KNOW magic is out there, and they hide from it.
For my husband's birthday, we went out and saw the movie with a large group of friends, most of whom were my initiates or students.
It was really fun hearing all of them quote my lessons while watching a Disney movie on magic. "Oh, look! It's an evocation! Wow, it even follows the Rules of Arte!" "Ooh, that's definitely the Ordeal!"
I knew I wanted to see this movie... now I want to see it even more. I loved the way he produced the dresden files, with a few exceptions they were very good... too bad it didn't last.
We saw the movie as a family, and we all really -surprisingly- enjoyed it. I have to admit I've only recently started to get past a dislike of Cage, but I think it's because he's stopped taking himself so seriously LOL!
I think - allowing of course for the fact that it's Disney movie magic - the flick was 'respectful' of the concept on magic, and well, Molina as a villiam is almost always worth the $8 matinee ticket!
And yeah...we were ALL saying 'that line' just before the lackey did too !
I wonder if I went in with too high of expectations?
Honestly I felt like it just.. went no where. The whole backstory of the entire movie is explained within the first five minutes, and that bothered me a lot, because it felt like there was no -real- development and intrigue as to why Cage's character needed to find Merlin's successor. It was all like "this happened, and he needs to find THIS GUY!" and then he found.. THIS GUY. And then it was all just kind of laid out and no real plot development happened, other than with the lead character's love interest.
I guess I also have a hard time connecting with high/fantasy magic? :S I'm more of a low-magic kinda gal.
