"Alice in Wonderland"

I'm not a fan of the "Alice" stories -- although I love Erl_Queen's explorations of the "Girls Underground" motif.

I'm not a huge fan of Tim Burton.
I don't adore Johnny Depp.

I went to see Alice in Wonderland in 3D with Wolfling this evening primarily because it was something fun for us to do together ( Read more... )

That's quite a compelling review!

I wasn't sure if I should see it in the cinema or not...Perhaps I'll do so in the near future.

It's also a very individual and somewhat eccentric review.
I have no idea how this film would work for anyone else.
But I'll be interested in your response if you do see it.

Thank you for the information - I love Johnny Depp's work, but specifically have not seen this film because I've found most of Tim Burton's recent films to be remarkably uninteresting and for Burton to have Depp play the exact same character from one film to the next. If this is not true with Alice in Wonderland, then I'm far more interesting to see it. Also, I'm very pleased to know that you continue to find new joys in life.

I really can't speak to the nuances (or lack thereof) in the Burton-Depp collaboration, as I haven't been inclined to see much of their work.

All I can say is that this particular film touched something deep in me -- and I suppose I should add that its power had nothing at all to do with Depp's performance.

"For once -- as I used to do all the time -- I'm just going to revel in the magic."

There's a smart way to go. :) That's how I do it, have done for a very, very long time.

Outstanding. Glad you had such a grand experience.

This is the exact same way I felt when I watched the movie Avatar. I could point out probably hundreds of problems, but it immersed me in the story so much I never even noticed it. It's nice to enjoy the magic of a story once in a while, without having to worry about if its a "good Hollywood movie".

I also loved Alice. I hope to at least see it in the cheap seats again before it comes out on DVD!
