Thank you, everyone for yet another round of kind and supportive comments.

oakmouse reminded me yesterday that initiations have a tendency to surface what's "not working" in your life and force change. My day job at MyCo is a big improvement over being an admin, but it's still not really what I'm supposed to be doing. So I'm considering ( Read more... )

I think transferring to a less expensive place in teh same complex sounds like a good compromise.

Now seems like a time for everyone in this country to be finding out what we can really do without, what are the important things, and learning how to live with less. I think that's one of the good things that can come out of this situation. You may lose the extra room, but I bet you will feel good knowing that you can make do with less, and live more within your means.

I think so too!

One of the side effects of my spiritual path has been becoming more and more aware of all the "stuff" around me. I have a lot of books, DVD's, and etc. Plus the miscellaneous stuff that accumulates over time. I'd been reflecting that I really need to go through all my stuff and shed anything I'm not actually using or which isn't truly giving me joy. I've been becoming painfully aware that it will cost less to live if I don't have all the extra stuff to support as well as Wolfling and me!

I've been very self-indulgent over the years. It's time to focus more on being a good steward and responsible chatelaine.

I'm a big fan of purging possessions. Always have been, ever since childhood, for some reason. I just can't stand the feeling of being weighted down by *stuff*, especially stuff I don't really want or need. So I regularly go through my things and see what can be disposed of. Plus, the extra benefit is that you can often sell things and make a little cash and/or give things to charity, which is nice (especially these days, when more and more people are in need). And, without so much stuff, you won't need as large of a living space! :)

Which isn't to say, btw, that I never buy things, even pretty and unnecessary things. But I often make a trade - I buy a new mug, I get rid of a mug I no longer love. That way I haven't accumulated anything extra, I can give the old thing to someone who will love it, but yet I have something new and shiny to play with. :)

'Tis the season, I suppose. I'm moving into a new apartment on the 24th and I'm trying to go through all of my stuff as well. I'm moving back in with my sister to help cut costs. It feels like a good thing at this time, a good chance to get rid of the old that's weighing one down.

I'm really glad your leasing office has another apartment available. Here's hoping it's everything you need and want.

I think you're making a wide decision, and I'm glad the leasing office wants to work with you on this.

I'm moving into a new apartment as well, hopefully, and I'm really, really trying to downsize what I can. I'm a notorious pack rat, so its no easy feat. I have also learned storage unit-furniture is my friend!
