I completely sympathize with you on missing the ocean and hills. Back home, if you stand at the top of my street, you can see the city sweeping around you and it's like you can feel how alive everything is; I don't really get that feeling when I'm here. And on being a hermit...boy, do I know about that. I'm not the most social person and neither were my roommates; we hardly existed to Compton. I don't know, even in my second year, I'm still not used to Chicago or college.
Watching lightning from 833 was really neat, though. The room's view of the Memorial Day fireworks at Navy Pier was also awesome.
And how funny that I left Compton for Palmer and there's my new housemate Yee Fay in one of your pictures.
Glad to see you update, I'd wondered how you were doing! Though I assumed no news was good news. :)
Great photos, as always - I like how you wove your thoughts around them. Oh, and this:
the lake and flatness of chicago cannot possibly compare with the pacific ocean and hills of san francisco.
SO TRUE. Oh my god. I cannot tell you how unnerved I was when I first moved to Davis. Once you pass Vallejo and Fairfield, it's all flat, lifeless, dry. Even being in Sacramento with the river doesn't feel right, because it looks and feels flat. But it's all about what you're used to/grow up with, I suppose.
