[Translation+Fanart] Kyu's "pickup line" on 090918 Sohu interview

Sep 21, 2009 15:32

After countless hours of almost going crazy, trying to figure out what Kyu was saying after the MC told him to show off his Chinese..finally figured it out.... I didn't see anyone else translate this part (might've missed it), but I thought it was one of the cutest parts of the interview.. His little giggle breakdown in the middle of it~ And the whole thing was just so Qmi~~

Starting from the kneeslap part:

MC: So, which one (improved the most), besides the Chinese members?
ZM: All of our other members are working hard, and even though everyone has improved, the one who has improved the most is Kui Xian.
MC: Come, Kui Xian, show us some of your Chinese.
KH: (Korean) I'll say some Chinese. (Chinese) Zhong li xun ta qian bai du.....mo ran hui shou..(giggle)....na ren....jie(wrong pronunciation)....
MC: Seems like you keep not being able to continue (your Chinese sentences)...
KH: (laugh) That's right.
MC: Who taught you this phrase? I want to know.
KH: My Chinese friend.
MC: This phrase is usually used to express your feelings for a girl. Why did you learn such a phrase?
KH: Because...(Korean) my friend taught me this sentence, saying it's a very good phrase, and I wanted to return to China to show it to everyone, but so far I still haven't practiced it enough.

Bawww....The Chinese friend who taught you this was actually Mimi, wasn't it? 8'DDD The funniest part is that when Kyu says the first part "Zhong li" it really sounds like "ZHOU MI". kekeke.... :3

About what Kyu was trying to say:
(He only gets up to the bolded part before cut off by the MC)
"众里寻他千百度,蓦然回首,那人却在灯火阑珊处。"
"zhong li xun ta qian bai du, mo ran hui shou, na ren que zai denghuo lan shan chu"

It is from Xin Qiji's classical poem "青玉案·元夕 (Green Jade Table in The Lantern Festival)".

Literally saying:
"Having searched for this person hundreds and thousands of times in the crowd, suddenly turning back by chance, I find him there in the dimmest candlelight."

This is just the last line of the poem and is quoted most often, the general/historic meaning of the poem (wtf, I researched too much...):

Historic: In ancient China, girls had to stay indoors all day long, and the Lantern Festival was one of the few times they could come out. In the sea and chaos of lantern lights, they would sneak away to meet their love and exchange promises to meet again next year.

Poem summary: Flowers bursting into bloom in the sky, stars falling like rain (fireworks/meteor shower), Whole streets filled with perfume, jeweled horses pulling ornate carriages, fish and dragon lanterns dancing throughout the entire night. A body decorated with golden thread and butterfly trinket, laughter that has a subtle fragrance. Having searched for this person until exhaustion, when suddenly turning back by chance, I find him standing lonely in the far end of the street in the waning light.

Why so romantic...;A; Definitely the kind of romantic poem Mimi would like..., it even describes him perfectly too! Honey laughter...golden clothes like sunshine, butterfly kisses~~ Kyu, this is as good as a confession. :\

And just because I'm craving Qmi too much...painted a fanart...

Somebody....A.U. please....? ;////w////; I really want A.U....~~
