They are two boys, sixteen and eighteen. One has everything but dreams of nothing, one has nothing but a dream.
They meet in detention, where an administrator screams at them- what's wrong with you, why can't you do better, you will never be anything. One leans back, used to it, one sits stiff, fists clenched under the desk because he tries, he tries, he tries. Three hours of silence later, they depart with only a brief glance and a shared nod. "I'm Kiseob." "I'm Soohyun."
The second time they meet, they're at an intersection and they don't see each other. But one looks up to see the other starting into the street before the light has changed and his hand instinctively reaches out. They slam into each other as Kiseob flies back, his fists in the air, stopping before they reach Soohyun's chest. They crumple onto the cement, tears mixing with tears as the light finally changes.
Soohyun teaches Kiseob to sing, though he's not very good at it. Kiseob teaches Soohyun to skip class, though he has too much of a conscience to do it often. During lunch they camp out in the music room, Kiseob bringing Soohyun extra food from home because he can't afford lunch. Soohyun promises to pay him back someday, when he becomes rich and famous. Kiseob thinks to himself he'd just be happy if Soohyun remembers him when he does.
They are two boys, breaking into school at three in the morning though they hadn't bothered to show up during the day. Fingers cling to the fence, the moon just beyond their reach. One sings to the stars, his voice carrying over rooftops and streetlamps, one gazes in awe at his own personal star.
