The other day I went to a medical lab to get a blood test the rheumatologist requested. I walked into the waiting room, went up to the receptionist's window, and waited for her to look up from her computer. Yup.

I just said the doctor, "So I don't know if this is relevant, but I've been having crazy mood swings this week."

"No kidding," he said. "You're on steroids."

As far as steroid side effects, my friend got put on prednisone and put on about ten pounds in that week. She was in hospital at the time and the nurses teased her that she ate anything that wasn't nailed down. Apparently it wasn't just the hunger, but the awful taste of the meds and the aftertaste when she wasn't eating anything.

Besides, don't feel bad, the other day I walked into the pub and asked the girl behind the bar if they were still serving food. She said "yes" just as I realised there was a 3-foot by 4-foot sign behind her that listed the hours and days they served food.

Whoops.

She accepted my apology and said nobody ever read it, she wasn't sure why it was still there. But then again, that's English politeness for you.
