Ridiculously Romantic

Name: Pia

We respect the LJ code. Are you over 13?: Absolutely. I turn 28 on Thursday. EGADS.
Five positive adjectives to describe yourself: Witty, determined, strong, ethical (by my own standards), intelligent.
Five negative adjectives to describe yourself: Callous (at times), inconsistent, self-deprecating, stubborn, wilful.
Your hobbies/interests: Art, graphic design, drawing, reading, writing, media analysis and media interpretation, mass communications, animal training, human psychology, trauma psychology.
Your strengths: I am able to do what's needed to get the job done, even if what's needed might be something that other people cringe at. This goes for defending people, or applying myself in a work situation. I have a very strong ethical system, even though that ethical system is my own, and not one that others can easily understand (including my partner, and we've been together for seven years!), but is one that they accept once I explain my position.
Your weaknesses: I can be inconsistent in my ability to be compassionate with others; and honestly I don't like this. I listed callousness above as a negative trait and while I believe sometimes it's necessary... I also think sometimes I use it as a crutch to avoid meaningful relationships or friendships with others. Total weakness. I can also be unreliable as a friend. If you're in a crisis, I'm there. But for all that other 'general socialising crap,' it's not really my scene.
What do people like most about you?: According to my partner I am strong (mentally, physically I have the upper body strength of a limp noodle), intelligent and insightful into human interaction. Also he thinks I'm a good artist.
Goals/aims for the future: Break into the gallery circuit in terms of exhibiting (start my first exhibition this week, woot!), create more meaningful relationships with others to a degree I'm actually comfortable with, heal from severe post-traumatic stress disorder.
Favourite quote/lyrics/phrase and why?: 'If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got.' I love it. It's basically a 'if you don't like the answers the universe gives you, change what you're doing.' Too many times people enact the same behaviours and seem surprised when they get the same results. Change it up!

Favourites

Animal: Shoebill Stork, or Whalehead (same animal), they mean business.
Book: House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
Food: Crepes with lemon and sugar.
Movies: Spirited Away
Music: Matt Pryor (of The New Amsterdams, The Get Up Kids and 'Matt Pryor'), Sigur Ros.

This or That

Leader or Follower: Leader
Optimistic or Pessimistic: Realist. Pessimist when it comes to personal relationships. Optimist at work.
Mature or Immature: I think I can be both, equally, depending on the situation. Life needs a little play.
Pleasure or Sacrifice: Both. You need to make the big sacrifices to get what you need out of life. You need to have pleasure in order to make the big sacrifices.
Confident or Shy: Confident except with deeply personal stuff, and then the jaws of life couldn't pry that out of me.
Selfless or Selfish: Probably more selfish, unless one of my friends is in real trouble.
Introverted or Extroverted: Introverted.
Rule or Be Ruled: Rule.

Queer as Folk

Favourite character and why?: Brian Kinney or Justin Taylor or Hunter. If I had to pick one, I'd go with Brian Kinney. I really respect that he's got his own ethical system. It doesn't make him many friends, but it certainly earns him respect. As someone who has my own ethical system, it's good to see someone who doesn't tow conservative social norms for social approval; preferring to do it his own way. I don't exactly love his drug consumption, but I get doing destructive things as a way to cope with horrendous or difficult emotional situations. He is a character I empathise with the most.
Least favourite character and why?: Probably Ted Schmidt, if only because I think he is essentially a weak character (though it does change throughout the series). He's a sweet friend, sure, but is that enough for solid character development? Not for me. I like him more in the last two seasons, but his 'sinking into drug use' storyline annoyed me. Well portrayed. But annoying.

Anything else you'd like to add?: Nope.

Include a photo of yourself here (no more than 3!) or just describe yourself:

- I am an INTJ, also known as 'the strategist,' or 'the mastermind,' which makes me feel like The Brain from Pinky and the Brain, and is not necessarily a good thing.
- Had a bunch of surgeries throughout my life, mostly recovered on my own; preferred it that way.
- I'm in an open relationship, because I don't believe in the conservative structure of monogamy (for me anyway), or for that matter, the outdated social ritual of marriage, which basically celebrates gender bias and hearkens back to times when we needed such social rituals to hold people together, because they wouldn't do it for themselves. It's more than possible to commit without a piece of paper, that's all I'm saying.
- I like identifying wildflowers as a hobby.
- I have severe post-traumatic stress disorder from events in my childhood, mostly abuse and neglect.
- My cat is named after Moet Chandon (Moet). He's a champagne tabby. It made sense.
