I apparently signed up for Twitter months ago, completely forgot I had it, and was only reminded sometime last week, when I got a Gmail notification that somebody had started following me.

And I was like, "...Since fucking when do I have a twitter?"

BUT MAYBE I'LL USE IT NOW THAT I KNOW THAT I HAVE IT, WHO KNOWS

So I like, totally googled Sophie Scholl to not sound ignorant and I went "DDDDDDDD:" and you should like totally write that D:

On the other topic... what's Twitter and what does it do? I still don't get it and it's like... everywhere XD""""""

It's totally already written and sitting on my hard drive, but then I went to post it today and I went "...hrm."

Sophie Scholl is amazing, she's one of my idols, pretty much. You can't do a whole lot better, as idols go.

Twitter is like...it's like...as far as I can tell, it's like trying to have a conversation in a crowded, noisy cafeteria, where you shout short, disjointed snippets back and forth to your friends to be heard over the roar. I don't know, it's a good way to flex my "be pithy in 140 characters or less" skills.

Sophie Scholl is awesome, and you should. (...really, I am always glad when people make the point that Germany =/= the Nazi regime, because guys that is not the sum total of German history. Le face, le palm.)

And Twitter is strangely addictive, especially now that I've discovered I can tweet from my iPod. Plus, I don't have to spam my journal with one-sentence updates anymore! I can just bug everyone on Twitter instead!

Not to mention, you know...I think Germany has the perspective to be, well...cowed into following the National Socialist agenda, yes, but he kept copies of all six White Rose leaflets hidden under his bed. Nations are more than what's happening to them in the present (and that's leaving aside their predilections as ~people~). That Germany colossally fucked up and did some horrendous things and may God weigh his soul against a feather for what he did during WW2, I don't think anybody can deny, but...for God's sakes, it's not like the German people were all a bunch of goose-stepping, seig heiling brainwashing victims. People harbored doubts, there was resistance. Unsuccessful resistance, but that doesn't make their courage and grace and conviction any less meaningful. I like to think Germany-the-character obeyed orders because he saw no alternative, after about 1942, not because he believed in the Final Victory ( ... )

*nod* Definitely. And it's not like the Nazis came to power in the first place because the German people were a bunch of evil anti-Semites, you know? They were suffering and they were desperate and they felt displaced and their government was ineffectual and inflation was insane, and it by no means excuses what happened during World War II, but I do think it helps explain why it happened in the first place. The National Socialists weren't this isolated evil -- they arose from a specific historical context, and well, they seemed like a better idea at the time than a lot of the other options. And yeah, the resistance narratives are important in this, because that's who Germany is, too. Hell, for all the horrible horrible atrocities committed against the Jewish people, Germany is also his Jews, and I can't imagine him not feeling that during this period, at least in part.

...tl;dr YES THIS I TOTALLY AGREE.

Oh, absolutely. I actually get really alarmed when I hear people talk about the Nazis like they were a projection from some alternate dimension, like in the cheesy 90s sci-fi TV specials where everyone gets replaced by their evil goateed doppelgangers. Germany didn't just go from being Germany to Snidely Whiplash and back again. It's horrible that the National Socialists came to power, but when you look at what had been going on in Germany since, I don't know, at least the Treaty of Versailles--it's not surprising that they did so. And it's not as if something like this couldn't ever happen in a developed nation again.

Hey like you said these cosplayers can't affect what we have to contribute to the fandom or what we are allowed to love right? Until fandom haters can do more than just typing on the internet, they're not doing anything either.
On another note, Scholl and White Rose is good fanart material too...

That's a really good point. I hadn't thought of it that way.

Oh gosh, are you thinking of drawing Sophie Scholl? More people need to know about the White Rose.
