As many of you know, we're most likely going to be moving to Norway in about 5 months time. Before this fabulous opportunity came up I knew next to nothing about Norway, so I've been looking up random things about the country, and thought I might gradually share them with LJ

By fluke I am reading a Cold War spy novel set in Norway at present. Random.

Their national poet is the playwright Hendrik Ibsen. And thereby hangs a tale and a half....

I read all his plays in my teens. My, what a crazy guy. Peer Gynt is the best-known, followed by Ghosts, Hedda Gabler and Rosmersholm. If ever you want to read some exhilarating lit crit, try the first reviews of Ghosts (Gengangere). 'An open drain." 'An uncovered sewer'. And so on.
