fade is one of those bands I would have listened to before I got into GACKT. My first impression was similar to that of many - somehow Jon's voice and fade's music lacked something... However, a couple of days ago I asked a friend of mine for his opinion on fade's music and Jon's voice in particular. I showed him a few videos on YT and we listened to the music together. All of a sudden, it sounded different to me. It sounded better than I had expected, that night.
Their music is fun (with the occasional meaningful moment) and they're fun. Jon works well with fade and suits what they're doing, I think. You really can't compare him to GACKT at all. My first exposure to them was the Kings of Dawn mini-album which is now probably my least favourite, hahahaha (the title track is epic though). Bad place to start for me!
Hmm, I really liked She and Kings of Dawn. Both pretty powerful songs.
Oh, this. She is wonderful and very emotional... I can't say exactly why, but it really moved me when I first heard it. And it occured to be one of Rui's favorite songs. Good to know they keep it in the setlist and it's as powerful live as on the record.
Lol, btw, both She and Kings of dawn are fully written by Rui. Seems you like his own songs more than collabs with Jon? ^^
They seem like completely other level with G, yep. Not worse, just... different attitude, different.. everything? Maybe that's what I like in them, this contrast with what I have been into for 8 years already. Some fresh air.
So, you don't like Kings of dawn album much? Hmm, let's see what about new one ^^
It's not really fresh air for me because I listen to a lot of stuff that's very different from GACKT, but I think the temptation is there to compare and contrast GACKT and Jon as vocalists and you simply can't do that. Different voices, different tones.
I like Born Ready and Kings of Dawn. The lyrics to BLACK HEART&DOLLAR $IGNS are just too much of a political cliche for me (I'm glad they did One Reason instead!) and I don't like Tides of Change that much, it's a filler song.
Having heard two of the new songs, I have high hopes for the next release though!
Thank you for the detailed report! It's really precious. Would you mind if I translate it (partly, I think) for our Russian fade-fan comm? I'll link back to you, of course.
